Hello friends, welcome! We're talking about leadership and today we will talk about the qualities of a good leader. Let's read from 1 Corinthians chapter 11 verse 1, ‘imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.’ These are the words of apostle Paul and he's calling those who are following him, to imitate him and that's really inspiring to see leaders who are bold enough to ask others to make them a pattern. Paul is inviting the disciples to follow him because he is following Christ. So, he was following the pattern or the model of the Lord Jesus in all that he did and that is why he was able to invite others to follow him. So, here's the first and most important quality which is to be a good follower. For someone to lead others to be a good leader, we can begin by being a good follower and in our case, we're talking about being spiritual leaders. We can first follow the Lord Jesus as our example and the standards of the word of God and that way, it makes it easier for us to teach others and invite them to follow along. Now the responsibilities that we carry as spiritual leaders is to lead people towards God, not to ourselves but towards God and that's something we see in the lives of leaders like apostle Paul, building many people, raising up many wonderful leaders and even long after he was gone, there were people making impact for decades because he had raised them up, built them up to follow the word and align their lives to the word of God and that's a challenge before us. When we lead, the real way to lead is by pointing to the Lord Jesus and building others up. We can of course study the lives of many people in the scriptures and see what qualities they would have carried that made them tremendous, inspiring leaders. There are names such as Moses, Joshua, Esther, Deborah and some qualities that are common to all of them are firstly, that they were very bold, they were bold to step out. All of them were courageous to take on the mandate that God gave them, that's an important quality for us, to take on what God is calling us to do. We also see that all of them were able to communicate the vision that God gave them. When we clearly speak the vision to the people whom we are leading, it makes it easier for them to follow what God wants for the people. We also see that these leaders had a heart for the people, it was not all about them but it was about what God wanted for the people, what God wanted for the nation and so that's another quality for us to think about others that God has brought into our circle and to have a heart of compassion, a heart that wants to build others up, empower them and see them released in the purposes of God for their lives. There are very many other traits such as humility, raising up others, giving credit where it is due, treating people well and so all these qualities would make for good leadership and that is something that we must work towards. Let's pray together, Heavenly Father, we thank you for the insights that we have in the word and the lives of people around who are serving you well. Help us Lord to imitate, follow them and be good leaders in the spheres where you've called us, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
